Goggles Off, Game On
May started out at the Scottish 5k Champs at Silverknowes, not the greatest start to the evening with heavy rain for the warm up and I was still nursing the remnants of a chest infection. The weather cleared for the rain thankfully, the same can’t be said for the chest and after the first 1k it felt like really hard work. I finished the evening with a PB, not where I wanted it to be, but a PB is a PB.
A few weeks later I was off to Llanelli for the first proper race of the British Super Series. I had a Tier 2 start due to my crash earlier at PA’s, but I didn’t let that put me off. Gun went off and I ran into the water, and then my goggles nose bridge disconnected so had to stop and re-attach them and put them back on before restarting my race (I was just giving everyone else a chance). I managed to come out of the water in 10th place putting me in a good position for joining a smaller bike group behind the leaders. As the bike progressed the groups merged together to form a fairly large front pack, then the heavens opened and it was just rain, hail and thunder. After being pelted by the clouds on the bike the I came out of T2 in 3rd place and started strong moving into 1st soon after, I ran strong and finished in 2nd overall and 1st Junior in Tier 2. Taking into account the tier 1 race (much drier but they were delayed) I finished overall 14th, so I was pleased with that.
This month I have been spending more time in Stirling at the National Triathlon Centre, it’s been a change spending time away from family but really good to put the three disciplines together from a training perspective. Looking forward to June with the Scottish leg of the British Super Series, always good to race on home turf.
